About seventy children usually turn up on Good Friday each year for a children?s service in the Priory Church, Deeping St James, followed by a selection of exciting activities in the Church Hall. The event begins in church at 9.30am with the service, which is open to everyone and follows Jesus? walk through Jerusalem carrying his cross to his crucifixion and death. Then those children who have booked in advance go to the hall for their activities from about 10.15am while the adult Good Friday Service takes place in church. Activities include decorating eggs, making Easter cards and making various Easter gifts and treats, and there is one big art project making a decoration to go into church. Over the years we have made a coloured overlay for one of the plain windows which will give the effect of stained glass, a decoration for the front of the Altar, and giant daffodils for the columns in the church. At 11.30am the children are joined by the people from the Good Friday Service for hot cross buns and to watch a drama presented by the Pathfinders youth group, hopefully on the Vicarage lawn if the weather is fine. |
