Scripture readings for Sunday
Each spring each parish church in England has to hold two meetings, one to elect churchwardens and one to receive the accounts and reports and to elect a parochial church council (PCC) and to consider any other business of general parochial or church interest. This all sounds crushingly boring, and indeed it would be quite possible to make it boring! But behind this simple description of the essential legal elements of the annual meetings (which are usually held consecutively on the same occasion), lies the exciting principle of the people of God meeting in prayer to seek God's guidance for their work for his kingdom in the ensuing year.
This year's annual meetings are to be held on Palm Sunday, 8th April, following the morning Sung Eucharist, and I would encourage everyone on the electoral roll to attend and take part in the discussion and decision-making. It is a great encouragement to the newly-elected wardens and PCC to know that the whole congregation is behind them. Whether you can attend or not, please pray for the meeting, that by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, God's will may be done; and pray, too, for those who are elected that they may receive the gifts they need to discharge their responsibilities.
Later this year we are holding a less formal parish conference which I hope everyone will attend, whether on the electoral roll or not, and which will take a wide look at all we do in God's name and help the PCC to generate a strategy for the was we shall work over the next five years. You will read more about this elsewhere, but for now please set aside the date 10th June (Trinity Sunday) in your diary, beginning after the Eucharist and finishing with Evensong.
Several volunteers have offered to give a lift to anyone who would otherwise not be able to get to church. If you would like a lift at any time either on a regular or occasional basis, please contact the Churchwardens.

At the March meeting of the Parochial Church Council the reordering of the fabric again formed part of the agenda.
A discussion was held regarding the panelling on the nave walls. Some indications of wet rot have been discovered on the south wall but this is not as yet a major problem and the PCC were not generally in favour of removing the panelling at the present time. They will however continue to monitor the situation.
The position regarding the dry rot on the north aisle is more serious. The PCC will be seeking the views of the congregation for their reaction on the reordering in general in a questionnaire; with your approval any action deemed necessary in respect of the panelling on the north side will be included with a faculty to implement other agreed changes.
These two important meetings for Parishioners will be held on Palm Sunday, 8th April immediately following the celebration of the Eucharist.
All members of the church electoral roll are urged to attend this meeting to hear the forthcoming plans for this, our church and also to have your say in the way in which we may carry it out and maybe to help in a practical way as a member of the PCC.
In keeping with most organisations, all Office holders and members of the Parochial Church Council will retire immediately prior to the meeting and be subject to re-election. This year Liz Spratley has indicated that she will not be seeking re-election to her position as Churchwarden.
Nominations for the posts of Churchwarden and for positions on the Parochial Church Council can be made on the notice board at the back of the church or at the meeting.
On the 15th March the Priory Church Coffee Group held it's annual meeting when members agreed on the distribution of funds. This year £600 was available for allocation, and the beneficeries were:
