Scripture readings for Sunday
Our new "Common Worship" services are now in the final stages of preparation and I have been sent an advance copy of the Order for Holy Communion. The book contains both a contemporary rite firmly based upon Rite A as we use at present at 10am on Sundays and on weekday festivals (and a traditional language version similar to the Rite B we use on Thursdays), and Book-of-Common-Prayer-as-people-really-want-it service, which we could use for the 8am on Sunday if we wish.
Together with members of our Worship Committee, I shall be consulting the people who regularly attend these services and working out what we ought to be using for the future. We ought to take this opportunity to think carefully about we would like to use to worship God: it is easy to go on using the same forms of worship simply from habit without asking ourselves and others whether they really suit our needs. Perhaps they do, and only minimal change will be necessary, but perhaps they do not and we shall need to consider something more. Whether we do much or little, we need to have all our decisions made by the autumn so that we can either begin using the new services from Advent (when their authorisation begins) or at least prepare to use them from New Year (when the ASB becomes illegal).
In order to avoid making all the changes at once, we introduced the new Calendar and Lectionary two years ago, and we shall be using the new Baptism rite (authorized last year) from this month, so there will be some changes to the monthly Family Eucharist as a result of this.
If you wish to know more, copies of the periodic newsletters are availble at the back of the church, and the Church of England website has details at www.cofe.anglican.org/commonworship . Meanwhile I should be pleased to hear people's views and concerns, and the more I hear, the better I shall be able to meet your requirements.

As a mother myself, I thought Mother's Day was wonderful. The children went to great lengths to create lovely gifts for their mums. The Climbers and Scramblers made a pot of flowers and the Explorers designed a little bag in which they put a piece of simnel cake that they had made themselves. I must say this was rather nice. The Climbers and Scramblers had also been very creative making cards for mum and I am sure all their hard work was much appreciated.
With the run up to Easter, the children have been learning about the final days before the crucifixion. They have discovered what it must have been like to live during those times and they got very involved with the stories they were being told. It was wonderful to see the younger ones actually thinking about what happened to Jesus and deciding for themselves what they thought about it. They were asking all sorts of questions.
For one of their activities they have made a tomb with a huge bolder that could be rolled away to reveal what was inside. Thank you to everyone who supplied white shoe boxes, they make brilliant tombs!! These were finished off with some rather interesting figures to stand outside the tomb. We also held an Easter Egg Hunt in the Vicarage garden. This always goes down well with the children and I think the grownups enjoy the excitement of it as well.
All the children's work is displayed in the Children's Corner at the back of the Church. Please take the time to have a look when you can, it is amazing what we get up to at Climbers, Scramblers and Explorers. The Climbers and Scramblers meet in The Vicarage and the Explorers in the Church Hall every Sunday (except when there is a Family Service) at 9.50am and finish in the Church with the rest of the congregation at around 11.00am. If there is anyone who would like to come along and join in, then please contact either Alison Warrick on 345890, Jane Thompson on 341089 or myself on 343370.

Three members from the Priory Church Mothers' Union travelled up to Lincoln by coach on 25th March to join members from all over the diocese at the annual Ladyday Banner Service held in the Cathedral.
During the singing of the opening hymn the branch representatives processed around the cathedral carrying a colourful display of banners. The Bishop of Lincoln was the preacher and Mrs. Renee Cutts, Diocesan President, led the intercessions.
This year being millennium year the service was particularly moving and memorable.
