Your Wedding Day
What we can offer you - see What will it Cost? for the latest fees.
Wedding at the Priory Church
Our standard package would include:
- The Wedding Service: This includes your special Service on the day and any preparation meetings by Parish staff.
- Calling your Banns: This is a legal requirement to confirm with the local community that there is no reason why you should not get married to each other.
- Certificate of Marriage: This is your proof that you are now married, and is given to you by the Minister at the end of the Service.
This is all that you have to pay for in order to be legally married in our Church.
Wedding at another Church
But if you live in this Parish and are getting married in another Church away from this Parish you will only have to pay The Priory Church to:
- Call your Banns: This is a legal requirement to confirm with the local community that there is no reason why you should not get married to each other.
- Banns Certificate: You will have to provide a certificate confirming that your Banns have been called in your "home" Parish Church to the Minister of the Church where you are getting married.
I'm afraid that we cannot offer any reduction to the fees quoted as these are all Statutory Fees, set for each calendar year by Order of Parliament.
- Please note that should the Statutory Fees we quote you change before your wedding day we will have to charge you the changed fee.
Optional Extras
We can offer you several optional extras to make your Wedding Day at the Priory Church that extra bit special.
- Organist:
We can offer you the services of our organist, who will play as your guests assemble in Church, then play your chosen Hymns during the Service. The organist will accompany the Choir if you have asked them to sing an Anthem for you or he will play a special Voluntary of your choice while the registers are signed, and he will play another special piece of your choice as you leave the Church.
Note that the Organist's fee is payable to our organist even if you ask someone else to play the organ for your marriage service.
If you ask for the organ to be played we ask you to consider making a donation towards the maintenance of the organ: it needs regular cleaning and tuning as the weather changes.
- Choir:
We can offer you the services of our Choir, who will process in front of the Bride down to the front of the Church and then lead the singing during the Service. They will sing an Anthem of your choice (or the Choirmaster's choice) while you sign the Registers and then process in front of you leading you out of Church at the end of the service.
(Please note that the Choir is not available during August)
- Video Recording:
If you arrange for your service to be professionally captured on movie/video we ask that the fees payable to the Organist and Choir should be doubled to include granting you all rights to record and playback their performances.
Please note that you should also purchase a "Limited Manufacture Licence (LM)" from PRS in order to to legally use and distribute any music recorded on your own CDs, DVDs or videos. This costs about £10.
- Bells:
Our team of bellringers offer to ring a joyful peal on our bells as you walk out of the Church, continuing till you have left the Churchyard.
- Verger:
We offer you the services of our Verger to ensure that the Church is ready for your wedding, light candles, reserve parking, etc.
- Flowers:
We have a team of Flower Arrangers who offer to provide floral displays around the Church to your requirements - both in number of displays and colour palette.
- Heating:
As it can be quite cold in the Church, even in Spring and Autumn, we offer to switch on the church heating for your service. Heating can be provided at any time of year, but we would recommend it between start of October and the end of March.
- Maintenance:
Finally we would ask you to consider making a donation towards the upkeep of our lovely building. Many parts are centuries old, which adds to the beauty of this Church in so many ways, but the community gets very little help to keep the place standing. For example we have been advised that the South Aisle roof is nearing the end of its life, and will cost many thousands of pounds to replace.
Please help us to make sure that the Priory Church is still standing if your children choose to be married here!
Note: A maintenance charge will be included in the Statutory Fee for your Marriage Service from 1st January 2013, so we will not suggest any donation for this after that date.
- * Weekdays:
Please note that, while our Choir and Bell-ringers do thier very best to fulfill bookings at weekends, they may not be able to find sufficient members for you on weekdays. We shall of course refund any fees paid where we find on the day that we cannot deliver the service you requested.
